Absolutely SOAKED in Star Wars

Monday, May 28th, 2007

Well, I’m home. Star Wars Celebration IV ruled my life for the last four days. Here’s just a few highlights.
Celebration IV badges

Rebelscum.com put me up in the Omni Hotel with none other than Dustin Roberts (Star Wars Fan Club President and all around great guy). I met up with the Force-Cast Podcast guys (Jason, Pete, Jimmy Mac, and Jovial Jay), who were all fantastic. You can hear their interview with yours truly in their first Celebration IV report.

You can see a video of me getting my head scanned at Gentle Giant Studios in LA at this link here. Listen closely to hear Dustin Roberts remind me to put on my ‘action figure face!’

I have tons of stories from Celebration IV that I will eventually share with you. Here’s one more sampler: me with actor Rusty Goffe, who played the Gonk droid, a Jawa, and cantina alien Kabe from A New Hope. You may also remember him as Burglecutt from the film Willow.

So while it was a short trip to Celebration IV, and I ran on 15 hours of sleep for four days, it was truly a fantastic experience. I have so much more to write about, but it’ll have to wait at least a day or so. I am, after all, getting married in exactly three weeks!

This is it!

Not much time to write.  Tomorrow morn I hop a plane for Los Angeles and Star Wars: Celebration IV!  All thanks to Rebelscum.com, I’ll have my head scanned by Gentle Giant (they’ll eventually make a 12″ action figure of me), I’ll get tons of autographs, and I may even have a drink or two.

I’ll be back on Sunday, with many many stories!

Five for fighting… fighting for the Name It Jad campaign!

Wednesday, May 2nd, 2007

In the last few weeks I’ve gotten a few more supporters for the campaign. I’m feeling in a chronological mood, so let’s start with Episode 1 and move up from there.

Jim Smentowski - Podrace spectator

First up we have Jim Smentowski, seen oh so briefly as a spectator of the podrace from The Phantom Menace. He also did effects work for that film, and others including the fantastically awesome Galaxy Quest. Jim now runs The Robot Marketplace, which I’m guessing is a service that finds jobs for downtrodden robots. I will kick bot, Jim. I will.

Phil Appleton IS Phil Delancy

Next up we have Phil Appleton, who is apparently also named Philip Delancy. Either way, he was one of the background pilots for Queen Amidala’s big shiny silver starship. Like all sane people, he thinks the name Jad is perfectly suited for that galaxy far, far away, and since he has an honest to goodness alias, I think I can count him as two separate supporters!

Richard Chew - ANH Editor

Now here’s one I was really excited to get. Richard Chew has been editing films since the late 60’s, and one of those little films he co-edited was none other than the original Star Wars. You may not know, but the original film won six Oscars, one of which was for editing. Thus, Richard Chew is an Oscar winner. Mr. Chew also wrote a note wishing me good luck on the campaign, but since he wrote it in silver on white paper, I can’t get a decent picture of it. Anyway, what this means, officially, is that the Name It Jad campaign has the support of an Oscar winner.

Whoa.

And that’s not even all I’ve got to show you! Here’s a great reply from Michael Culver, the short-lived Imperial officer Captain Needa from The Empire Strikes Back.

Michael Culver - Captain Needa

Yeah, you’ve heard the name Captain Needa before.  Needa lives!

Finally, we move on to Return of the Jedi, and Ewok actor Alan Bennett, who has extended his good wishes to… to…. I can barely type this….

TO JED! Aaaarrrrgh!

Well, that was still a really good haul of autographs. Mr. Lucas, are you paying attention? Worldwide public opinion is swaying in my favor. Only YOU can end this destructive conflict, bring order to the galaxy, and announce that something will be named ‘Jad’ in the TV show. We’ve heard precious little about the show so far. I think I can speak for the dozen or so Star Wars fans who use the internet and say, give us the scoop!  The Jad-related scoop!
