Where have I been?

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

Okay folks, quick Jad recap:

June 18 - Mary and I tied the knot in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.  We then honeymooned on St. John and Virgin Gorda.  Received a few lovely gifts.  Life was bliss.

June 29 - We flew back from the honeymoon (extremely late, due to flight delays) and immediately moved ourselves from one apartment to another in our Iowa town, though we’ll only be in Iowa for another month.  We had to do a temporary move because our first lease was up and the landlord wouldn’t extend it for us.

July 1 to 13 - Chose San Diego as our new home, for a variety of reasons.  None of said reasons were that we had jobs lined up, so we vigorously applied for jobs.  Didn’t hear much back.

July 14 - Had a wedding reception in Iowa City for folks who couldn’t come to the one in the Caribbean, plus also did the legal paperwork stuff - you know, so the wedding could be official and all.  Received many fine gifts.

July 18 - Flew out to San Diego for three nights to desperately find a new apartment out there.  Put in an application at an apartment complex, and waited, waited, waited….

July 22 - Had a third wedding reception at my parents’ house in Ft. Madison.  Received more fine gifts.  Still didn’t know if we were accepted at San Diego-area apartment, so weren’t sure where all these gifts would go…

Today, 5:45 PM Central Standard Time - found out we ARE accepted at San Diego-area apartment.  Breathe.

Three days from now - have all of our belongings packed into the moving truck.  Be ready to drive two cars and one cat across the plains and rocky mountains to our new home in sunny southern California!

Plus, find jobs!

The moral of the story, DON’T try to do a destination wedding, two additional receptions, and a move across the continent in a month and a half.

I can’t tell you how extremely satisfying it is to know that we do indeed have a residence in our name in California.  Up until today, we were technically going to be homeless come the end of the month.  And, now that I actually do have a permanent address again, I can start sending out autograph requests in earnest.  Once we get set up in California, the nameitjad.com campaign will REALLY start kicking into high gear!

Sorry ladies, I’m spoken for…

Hi.

I got married. And I’m finally back from my honeymoon (lasting not long enough) and am finished moving across town (lasting way too long). So, here’s what an off-the-market Jad looks like:

Mary and Jad, married

We had our nuptials in St. Thomas, US Virgin Island. You’ll notice my wonderful wife Mary and I are strolling along Magen’s Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole universe. Including Earth.

The practicalities of a destination wedding meant that I wouldn’t be having a garrison of Stormtroopers escorting the guests, unlike the recent wedding of my close personal friend Dustin Roberts. But, I did manage to sneak in one Star Wars reference that was enjoyed by all.

In further life-changing news, Mary and I have finally decided that we will be relocating to San Diego, California, USA, Earth. We are both long overdue for a change of stimuli, and we certainly won’t mind leaving Iowa’s winters behind us. So with no solid job prospects or even a lead on a decent place to live, we’re moving out at the end of the month!

Hooray, life!
