The End of the Beginning

Jad’s not here, man.

Actually, I am here, but I won’t be here much longer.

I’ve started up a new blog: JadOnTV.com. I’m taking the Name It Jad campaign to bold, dizzying new heights! I’ll be campaigning to spread the name Jad among all my favorite TV shows: Lost, Heroes, Battlestar Galactica, Chuck, 30 Rock, and many more!
This site will be going dark within a few months, so update your bookmarks. There’s going to be a LOT more Jad online!

“Under Construction” is such a cliche….

Hey folks.

Been kinda quiet around here lately.  Not much to write about.

Fear not.  Got some things in the works.  Things I’ve never done before.
Gonna break the mold.  The Name It Jad campaign ain’t dead.
Stay tuned.

Where’s Jad?

Believe me, I’ve been asking myself that question a lot lately.

Sometimes it feels like the whirlpool of life is dragging me under.  I’m glad to have recently found a good job in the environmental consulting arena, however my commute is brutal: 45 minutes to work, an hour home.  My wife’s commute is not much better; 30 plus minutes each way.  Admittedly, we’re still fairly new to the San Diego area and are getting our feet wet in the big city lifestyle.  These drive times (including grocery shopping, going to church, etc.) are a world away from what we were used to back in good ol’ quaint Iowa City, IA.  I truly wish I could update the blog while driving to work, but it wouldn’t do anybody any good to go crashing my car, now would it?

I am glad to report that my friend Bill Chirrick over at starwarslocations.com recently invited me to write up a story about my trip to Sevilla, Spain, and the Ep II filming location found there.  Head on over to his excellent site to see my little contribution!
In other news, I recently spoke with Philip Wise of Rebelscum.com about my custom 12″ Jad action figure.  He had me email him some headshots so the artists at Gentle Giant can paint the piece.  Which means my very own custom 12″ action figure actually exists!  Just a few coats of paint and he’ll be all mine!  It is so very important to have something to look forward to.

Real life.

As some of you know, my wife and I live in La Mesa, CA, which is adjacent to San Diego. We have been keeping a close eye on the fires, but as of this writing, we are still safe at home. It does not look like we will have to evacuate, but we are prepared to go just in case.

We have been watching some stunning footage on the local news. Several National Guard helicopters are dropping buckets of water nonstop on the northwest front of the Harris Fire. They refill from the Sweetwater Reservoir, and let me tell you I am thrilled to have that resource so close to us.
It is a surreal sensation to watch the flames on the news and see the Harris Fire smoke in the distance, but to have clear blue sky above us. Our hearts go out to those who have lost so much during these last few days.

He’s worth a lot to me!

OK folks, this one is HUGE! The NameItJad campaign has just received its ‘biggest’ celebrity supporter to date! I appreciate each and every one of the great responses I get for the campaign. But of all the names so far to add to the list, this one may be the most recognizable.

He only had four lines in the original trilogy, consisting of 27 words.

He was the very first action figure released from The Empire Strikes Back.

He came to an ignoble end in the belly of the Sarlaac pit, though the comic books and novels have resurrected him from umpteen supposed deaths.

Yes folks, you know him, you love him, I’m speaking of none other than Boba Fett himself, JEREMY BULLOCH!

Jeremy Bulloch NameItJad support

To think that just a year ago I started this wee little campaign, and now I’ve scored the generous support of THE bounty hunter supreme, is just astounding. Let me extend many, many, many thanks to Jeremy for this terrific note of support! I got to speak to Jeremy briefly at Celebration IV and, true to his reputation, he is a wonderful man and terrific to his fans.
